Finn m
1 Irish Gaelic: traditional name meaning ‘white, fair’. The modern Gaelic form is Fionn. The mythological Irish hero Finn MacCool (Finn Mac Cumaill in Irish) was noted for his wisdom and fairness. He was leader of the Fenians or Fianna, a band of warriors about whom many stories are told. There may be a basis of fact behind the legends, in that Finn may be identified with an early Irish leader who defended Ireland against Norse raiders.
2 Scandinavian: from the Old Norse personal name Finnr, originally either an ethnic byname for someone from Finland or else a short form of the various compound names containing this element.
